Henderson Community College
Development of an Interactive Electronic Advising Syllabus
Brian McMurtry and Jonas Hunziker
Student Services and Activities
Henderson Community College, Henderson, KY, honors Brian McMurtry, IT Manager/Network Manager, and Jonas Hunziker, IT Specialist, for their development of an interactive electronic advising syllabus as the Innovation of the Year for HCC. Facilitators work through the syllabus with a small group of new students while the students complete each section of the syllabus electronically. The electronic form is automatically emailed to the admissions advisor who can then forward an electronic copy to the academic advisor once the student has moved from initial advising to second-semester advising. This is not only a lean management principal (saving paper and printing costs), but allows the academic advisor to have a snapshot of the student prior to their initial meeting. A database of students who have completed the electronic advising syllabus was also created. This project was created using Microsoft programming tools.
