In 2007, a U.S. Department of Labor Community Based Job Training grant was awarded for 2.1 million with the goal of educating and training students and incumbent workers in order to retain and grow high-skill and high-demand employees for the advanced manufacturing industry, Eighty-five percent of the students completing their degree have secured jobs in their related field. Central Community College also was the first in the State of Nebraska to become a Manufacturing Skills Standard Council assessment testing site. Incumbent workers have the ability to take a nationally recognized certification test in core knowledge and skills areas including Quality, Manufacturing Processes, Safety, & Maintenance Awareness. By completing this nationally based test, employees receive a nationally recognized credential for the production workforce.
