Literary Competition
GUIDELINES
The League for Innovation invites each board college or district in the League to participate in the Student Literary Competition and submit one entry in each of the following categories:
Poetry, Personal Essay, One-Act Play, Short Story
National competition opens January 2, 2013.
Deadline to submit to national competition: April 30, 2013
General Eligibility:
Each student entrant must be a currently enrolled "for credit" student in a League for Innovation board member college. Academic enrollment must be verified by the local coordinator.
Entries must be original works written during the student's enrollment in credit courses at the college. Each entry must have the signature of a sponsoring faculty member. Click here to access entry form.
Entries must be submitted in two forms:
- A hard copy, typewritten or word processed, and double-spaced on 8.5 x 11 inch white paper - mailed to National Host Coordinator (see below)
- E-mail attachment. Each entry must be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.docx or .doc) - emailed to National Host Coordinator (see below).
- The upper right corner of each page of the entry must include:
- Title of Entry.
- Author's ID (school acronym and genre, e.g., DAC-fiction).
- Page number.
- Please note: The Author's full name must not appear on any page of the entry itself.
Each Entry Form must include:
- Author's name.
- Home address.
- Author's ID (school acronym and genre, e.g., DAC-fiction).
- Institution.
- Title of entry.

The official League for Innovation Student Literary Competition Entry Form must be completed, signed (student and faculty sponsor), and enclosed with each entry.

Maximum
Length Requirements:

The Poem must not exceed 67 lines.
- The
Personal Essay must not exceed 2500 words.
- The
One Act Play must not exceed 3500 words, including stage directions
and production notes.
- The
Short Story must not exceed 3500 words.
Judging:
In
each category, the judge is a nationally-recognized writer. The
decisions of the judges are final.
