STUDENT ART COMPETITION
Guidelines
2012-2013

Hosted by Anne Arundel Community College
Coordinated by Donna Hepner

The League for Innovation in the Community College is a 44-year-old international organization dedicated to catalyzing the community college movement. The League provides exceptional opportunities for students through the pursuit of projects and ideas that promote innovation and creativity.

The Student Art Competition, now in its 27th year, enables community college students to compete with their peers across North America.  Notably, the competition provides a means to showcase a selection of the best works being created by today’s community college students. The host for this year’s competition is Anne Arundel Community College, Arnold, MD, coordinated by Donna Hepner.

Call for Entry Open: January 2, 2013

National Submission Deadline: April 11, 2013

Awards
The League for Innovation will distribute the following awards:
Best of Show: $800
Second Place: $350
Third Places: $200
Juror’s Purchase Award (3): $100/each

Certificates of merit will recognize all students whose works are submitted to the National competition.

REQUIREMENTS

Number of Entries
A total of five works may be submitted for the national competition from each of the League board member colleges or district. Colleges may use any procedure they choose for the selection of the five works to be submitted. All student art competition entries must be submitted through your League for Innovation juried art competition college coordinator by the deadline established for your local competition. Each college's competition coordinator will then submit up to five local winners to the national-level competition by the deadline established for the current year's competition.

Eligibility
Students currently enrolled in fine or applied art classes at League member colleges are eligible to enter the competition. Any type of artwork may be submitted, including three-dimensional ones. One digital image should be submitted for flat work; two may be submitted for three-dimensional work.

Checklist

  1. Check with your instructor for your college’s entry and selection procedure.
  2. Complete local entry form and sign it.
  3. Submit entry to your college representative.

Submission/Entry Process
For local college/campus competition submission guidelines, please contact your college’s coordinator, listed on the poster and entry form at your institution.

Deadline for National Competition:
Competition coordinators should direct local-level winners to submit their entries via CaFÉ by April 11, 2013. Also, please submit your list of winners directly to the host (Name, college/campus, title of artwork).

PLEASE NOTE:
The League runs the national-level Student Art Competition through an online portal called CaFÉ(www.callforentry.org). It is being utilized to manage the submission and judging processes, and for creation of the catalogue. Each year the host college will set up the Call for Entry through the administrative portal on CaFÉ. Once the local judging has been completed, each board college coordinator will direct each of their local winners (up to five per college or district) to the CaFÉ site to create a user account, and submit their entry for national judging.

For the national-level competition, judging shall be done online at the CaFÉ site (www.callforentry.org). Each entrant who moves on to the national-level competition must create a user account on the CaFÉ site, which must include the artist’s completed profile.

Since the digital quality may affect the juror’s perception of a piece, it is required that uniform guidelines be followed in uploading the digital image on the CaFÉ site.

Each student artist is asked to submit a short written statement regarding his or her work.  The statement may address the specific work that is submitted to the competition or describe more general concepts that the student is dealing with in his or her art.  All statements will be published in the exhibition catalog.
