On graduation day, one of my students took off her National Honors Society stole and placed it around my neck. I told her that I couldn’t accept this gift; it was too valuable. She looked me in the eyes and said "Dr. McWaine, without you, I would not have graduated". That is what inspires and motivates me as an educator; to touch as many students that I can. Students often need something to latch on to and if I can serve as that latch, that is what I will do. I have my student’s stole hanging with the robe I wear to graduation each year and it will forever serve as a reminder to me that I do make a difference.
