I believe that doing science is every bit as important as learning the facts and concepts of science. Hands-on research projects should be a part of the undergraduate education of any science student. I involve students in all aspects of my research from planning a project to publication. I also try to give them opportunities to work with other professional scientists from governmental and tribal organizations and from private companies. These experiences and the contacts my students make serve to teach them what it is to be a scientist and help them to get jobs as scientists when they graduate.
