Statement:	Always wanting to create a program to help students – to find their own voices, to inspire goals, and to nurture them in the process, I volunteered with two like-minded colleagues to launch ethnic-based learning communities for African-Americans, Asian-Americans, and Latinos by pairing basic English and counseling classes to focus on reading, writing, and study skills combined with service learning and cultural events. Today we remain active “founding mothers” to our fantastic team of faculty.
