2009 LEARNING COLLEGE SUMMIT

Call for ProposalsThe League invites proposals to present at the 2009 Learning College Summit, June 14-17, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona, hosted by Maricopa Community College District. The five topic areas are Organizational Culture, Learning Environments, Learning Outcomes and Assessment, Student Engagement, and Inquiry and Accountability. Call for Nominations
The League
for Innovation and Microsoft invite community college faculty and staff at League Alliance institutions to
nominate two outstanding community college technology students for the Terry
O'Banion Student Technology Awards. Winners will be
determined through a national search
of nominations from League for Innovation member colleges. Three students with special talent and interest in technology careers who demonstrate a need for financial assistance in meeting their career goals will be awarded $5,000 and copies of Microsoft software programs. | 2009 CIO SURVEY SET TO BEGIN

Annual Study of Technology Leadership in Higher Education
Distribution of surveys for the 2009 study of higher education technology leadership will begin in February. Wayne Brown, who leads the study, encourages survey recipients to consider contributing to this valuable body of knowledge. Bridges
to Opportunity for Underprepared Adults: A
State Policy Guide for Community College Leaders
This new publication from the Ford Foundation-funded Community College Bridges to Opportunity initiative offers practical strategies and tools for addressing the need
to provide large numbers of working-age adults with education and training that
will allow them to secure jobs paying wages sufficient to support their
families and have access to real opportunities for social mobility in American
society. The book, which includes strategies and tools for improving outcomes of underprepared adults as well as Bridges case studies, was featured in the December 2008 issue of Leadership Abstracts. Click here to request a copy of the new publication.

Flu Shots Help BC Practice for Community Response
One hundred
and fifty volunteers. Twelve partnering agencies. Three hours. Sixteen hundred
citizens vaccinated. On October 24, 2008, volunteers gathered at Bakersfield
College to test their
ability to vaccinate the community in a Point of Dispensing exercise. The College entered
into the partnership because of the fact that if Bakersfield was ever to
experience pandemic influenza or another such disaster, it might be necessary
to distribute medications to many
citizens quickly, and Bakersfield College would be called
