KnowHow2GO Mentor Workbook Now Available
The American Council on Education, the Ad Council, and Lumina Foundation for Education are distributing the new KnowHow2GO Mentor Workbook, developed with support from the MetLife Foundation. The workbook is designed to help caring adults guide the students in their lives through the steps to college, no matter their level of familiarity with the process. It suggests conversation-starters and activities the mentor and mentee can do together to become college-ready.
The workbook is organized into chapters based on KnowHow2GO’s “Four Steps to College,” which are as follows:
· Be a pain – Let everyone know that you’re going to college and need their help.
· Push yourself – Working a little harder today will make getting into college easier.
· Find the right fit – Find out which school best suits your personality and goals.
· Put your hands on some cash – If you think you can’t afford college, think again. There’s lots of financial aid out there.
These steps are central to KnowHow2GO, the national college access campaign that encourages low-income, first-generation students to actively prepare for college. KnowHow2GO, which launched in January 2007, is sponsored by Lumina Foundation for Education, the American Council on Education, and the Ad Council. It features public service advertisements and other media that speak directly to students. Today, 15 state coalitions run local campaigns and more than 30 national partners serve as advisers and partners. Additional information on KnowHow2GO and the resources it provides to students can be found at www.KnowHow2GO.org. The new KnowHow2GO Mentor Workbook can be downloaded at www.KnowHow2GO.org/partners, located under Campaign Assets » Print Collateral.
