Outreach Efforts for Part-time Faculty at Central Piedmont Community College
With a 422 percent increase in the number of part-time faculty in higher education between 1970 and 2003, the apparent dependence of community colleges on part-time faculty raises concern when considered alongside recent research suggesting that student exposure to part-time faculty is negatively correlated with associate degree completion. Central Piedmont Community College has been intentional in its efforts to integrate part-time faculty into the culture and climate of the college and has seen increases in both student success and retention.
