Stopping the Math Meltdown: MITE Launches Developmental Math Solutions Project
Nearly three-quarters of freshman entering community colleges have to take remedial math. Fewer than half of them pass. Getting into and through college is key to the future of these students, but math is often an insurmountable hurdle for many of them. Change is on the way, though. A new planning project, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is designed to find ways to retool math education to overcome this obstacle to success.

2009 Terry O'Banion Student Technology Award Recipients Announced
The League for Innovation in the Community College and Distinguished Partner Microsoft Corporation are pleased to announce the selection of Brenda Meza, El Paso Community College (El Paso, TX) and William Brodie, Middlesex County College (Edison, NJ), as the 2009 Terry O'Banion Student Technology Champions. Microsoft sponsors the Terry O'Banion Student Technology Champions awards annually in honor of Terry O'Banion, Senior League Fellow and President Emeritus of the League.

Member Spotlight: Treasure Valley Community College
When Treasure Valley Community College was awarded the competitive Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant from the Department of Education in 2005, the college knew this funding would be the catalyst for change at TVCC. One of the priority areas in the grant was creating a way to identify at-risk students and then provide services to help them be more successful at college. Early on, the Title III team developed and piloted an Early Alert/ Intervention program. This innovative and cost-effective program was featured at two League for Innovation conferences as a model for other colleges.
