It’s Easy Being Green: St. Louis Community College-Wildwood’s Green Campus Becomes a Sustainability Learning Lab

Being a green campus is about more than the physical features of buildings and landscape; it is a mindset that faculty and staff members are asked to carry into their planning and practice on a daily basis. At St. Louis Community College-Wildwood, every area, from physical facilities and campus life to academic affairs, is asked to integrate sustainability into its daily practices. Let the Conversation Begin: How Do We Deal With a Rogue Trustee?

For decades community college presidents have been communicating through a private and confidential network with each other about one of the most challenging issues they face—the Rogue Trustee. This has been a closet issue in the community college, whispered about when presidents convene during state and national conferences and reviewed in private phone calls to each other in desperate attempts to seek resolution of the problem. I believe that, until now, this has been fairly uncharted territory. There have been state and national conversations about dysfunctional boards, but there has not been an open conversation about the rogue trustee. Inasmuch as the rogue trustee may well be a cause of dysfunctional boards, we need to expand these conversations.
