For decades community college presidents have been
communicating through a private and confidential network with each other about
one of the most challenging issues they face—the Rogue Trustee. This has been a closet issue in the community
college, whispered about when presidents convene during state and national
conferences and reviewed in private phone calls to each other in desperate
attempts to seek resolution of the problem. I believe that, until now, this has been fairly uncharted
territory. There have been state and
national conversations about dysfunctional boards, but there has not been an
open conversation about the rogue trustee. Inasmuch as the rogue trustee may well be a cause of dysfunctional boards, we need to expand these conversations.
