News From NROC

Remediation in mathematics is necessary for many Americans who seek a college diploma. NROC has just received a $5 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to work with educators to develop a new approach to developmental mathematics with the aim of accelerating student success in transitioning to college level studies. Funds will be used to craft a nationally distributed, open educational resource that includes rigorous content and innovative practices addressing pre-algebra, introductory algebra, intermediate algebra, and geometry. Visit NROC at the CIT conference to learn more or email trowenhorst@montereyinstitute.org if you are interested in keeping up-to-date on the project.

As the federal government prepares to step up investments in community colleges, funding for robust online content and open educational resources (OER) is getting significant attention. In response, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has organized an OER coalition of partners, including NROC leadership, to work with the government to ensure these stimulus funds will best serve colleges, teachers, and students. As institututions vie for funding for the development of new content, NROC Network members can look to the NROC team for guidance in expenditure planning, content development, and quality assurance. Learn more at the upcoming CIT conference or email membership@montereyinstitute.org for more information.
