The Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM (TIES) is pleased to announce that it is coordinating a Learn and Earn strand for the League for Innovation's 2011 STEMtech conference.

Educators, industry leaders, and others will gather at the 2011 STEMtech to discuss increasing student success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors and careers and to explore the strategic use of information technology to better serve their students, campuses, and communities. Chosen Learn and Earn presentations will be noted as such in the Conference Program via a special Learn and Earn icon.

Learn and Earn proposals are being sought for concurrent sessions, roundtable discussions, and posters sessions that align with the following conference tracks:

STEM Tracks

  • Health and Science
  • Energy, Environment, and Sustainability
  • Mathematics, Engineering, and Architecture
  • Manufacturing, Industry, Agriculture, and Aerospace
  • Technology, Multimedia, and Telecommunication
  • Recruiting, Retaining, and Transitioning Students Into STEM Programs (NEW)

tech Tracks

  • Technology Systems and Applications
  • E-Learning Resources

Presentation proposals need to demonstrate Learn and Earn best practices. Suggestions for panel discussions include a community college representative, an industry partner, a student who has experienced a Learn and Earn program, a workforce partner, or a state STEM network leader. Learn and Earn programs exist in many different formats, including apprenticeships, internships, co-ops, and flex-credit, to name just a few. It is TIES' intention to showcase as many Learn and Earn formats and options as possible.

Increase the Likelihood Your Proposal Will Be Accepted!

  • Consider how you can make your presentation appealing to as many people as possible, as well as how you will include audience participation.
  • Include an expressive title (10-word maximum) and an accurate presentation description (30-word maximum).
  • Have something important to share, such as new ideas, new findings, or new recommendations.
  • Be sure to include what participants will learn from the session and why it will matter to them.
  • Submitting your presentation proposal before the April 15, 2011 deadline is very important!
