Introductory college mathematics courses and the developmental course sequences designed to prepare students for success in them have been burial grounds for the aspirations of a myriad students seeking to better their lives though education. Uri Treisman describes a new initiative by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Dana Center designed to reengineer these foundational course sequences. The initiative owes a substantial debt to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement for its work on the practical science of improvement and its approach to process and product innovation.

Participants learn the key components of an award-winning project and service-based learning model, including strategies, data, and successes of the model across a broad curriculum, with special emphasis on STEM disciplines.
