The facilitators lead discussions about lessons learned from a workforce initiative involving students in a biotechnology program. Participants engage in a game of Monopoly to experience funding challenges and the misfortunes and triumphs of students. Each participant is randomly designated as a hypothetical scholarship student and given a brief biography. Participants then choose from "Chance" or "Community Chest" cards to simulate real-life scenarios (i.e., a student is in academic trouble or a student is about to be evicted from their housing). The game board, comprised of the biotechnology curriculum and related scholastic activities (i.e., developmental courses, laboratories, counseling sessions), is projected onto a screen so participants can see the various predicaments of each player. Participants leave this workshop having learned strategies for retaining and motivating students and for overcoming funding limitations.

A multidisciplinary group of LCC students took part in a challenging, real-world sustainable house design competition. Planning for sustainable construction required development of integrated learning objectives to ensure successful project delivery from diverse student backgrounds. Participants are taken through a planning exercise to create learning outcomes for project-based opportunities.
