As president
of the Education Commission of the States, Piedad F. Robertson leads the organization with over 20 years experience in the education sector. She previously served as president of Santa Monica College, Bunker Hill Community College and Miami-Dade Community College. Robertson also was Massachusetts secretary of education and vice president for public affairs of Miami-Dade Community College. Highlights of her career include establishing a multimedia center that prepares students for the entertainment industry; supervising the drafting of a comprehensive K-12 Education Reform Act; and developing regulations, guidelines and technical assistance for establishing innovative charter schools. Robertson also worked with K-12 and higher education officials in implementing a dual-enrollment program for high school seniors, and developed and co-chaired a comprehensive plan for establishing a school-to-work system. Robertson remains involved on the boards of numerous organizations.
