Kathie S. Sigler holds an Ed.D. in Community
College Administration and Curriculum Development from Nova
University and serves as Provost for Operations at Miami-Dade
College. As Provost, she serves as the chief administrative
officer and oversees all operational aspects of the college. In
this capacity, she provides collegewide leadership for Human
Resources, College Training and Development, Business Affairs,
Information Technology and Telecommunications, Facilities,
Legislative Affairs, and Legal Services for six campuses. Kathie
also serves as a spokesperson for the college on policy matters
and provides leadership in long-range and strategic planning.
Prior to serving as Provost, Dr. Sigler was President of the
Medical Center Campus of Miami-Dade College. During her tenure as
Campus President, she served as the chief academic and
administrative officer of the campus.
A native of Detroit, MI and alumnus of Wayne State University for
her bachelors and masters degrees, Dr. Sigler came to Miami-Dade
Community College in 1969 as a member of the business education
faculty. Over the past 33 years, she has served in various
positions at the college including Department Chairperson,
Curriculum Developer, Project Director, Associate Dean,
Administrative Dean, Academic Dean, Vice President and Chief
Information Officer, Campus President, and her current role as
Provost for Operations.
Her postdoctoral work includes Harvard University's prestigious
Harvard Seminar for New Presidents and Harvard's Institute of
Educational Management, as well as the Executive Leadership
Seminar for Future Community College Presidents sponsored by the
University of Texas at Austin, the University of California at
Berkeley, and the League for Innovation in the Community College.
She has also completed numerous technology training classes and
seminars. Dr. Sigler holds the academic rank of Full Professor at
Miami-Dade College.
Dr. Sigler has played key leadership roles nationally and in the
Miami community in the area of educational technology. She is best
recognized for her efforts to advance educational opportunity and
her innovative approaches to teaching and learning using
technology. Dr. Sigler was invited to serve as a member of the
faculty at Harvard University for the Seminar for New Presidents
to discuss "What Every President Needs to Know about Technology."
The University of Texas at Austin also invited her to serve as
faculty for their doctoral training program for future presidents.
She keynoted the American Association of Community College's
national seminar on Taming Technology and was featured on the
"Faces of COMDEX!" website.
The vision and leadership for instructional and administrative
technology has been provided at the college by Dr. Sigler,
including the development of the Master Plan for Technology for
the college. She has led the development of college technology
standards and policies. She continues to provide leadership in the
implementation of the master plan collegewide and has direct
responsibility for the Virtual College, MDCC's distance education
initiative for the entire college.
A prolific writer, Dr. Sigler has authored of over 16 college and
high school texts including Reference Manual for the Office
now in its 8th edition, Medical Office Reference Manual in
its 3rd edition, and her first CD-ROM, Multimedia Reference for
Writers. She also writes numerous journal and magazine
articles and serves on the boards of several professional
publications.
Having a strong belief in community service, Dr. Sigler serves on
many community boards including The Public Health Trust,
CaResource, Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, Health Initiatives
Committee for the Chamber of Commerce, the South Florida Hospital
and Healthcare Association, and West Dade Homeowners Association.
A much sought-after consultant, Dr. Sigler's most recent
consultancies include IBM, Lotus Development Corporation, Hitachi,
Microsoft Corporation, Compaq Computer, PC Week Magazine, and
Apple Computer, to name just a few.
Dr. Sigler has been recognized by numerous distinguished
organizations as evidenced by her selection by the City of Miami
Commission on the Status of Women for their Unsung Heroines Award,
by the Governor of Valencia, Spain as an honorary Fallera, "Dr.
Kathie Sigler Day" by Mayor Stephen Clark of Metropolitan Dade
County, by Mayor Maurice Ferre for a Commendation by the City of
Miami, and many others.
