| Dr.
Henry D. Shannon was named chancellor of St. Louis Community College
in January 2000. Previously, he served as acting chancellor in 1997-98
and in fall ’99. Dr. Shannon earned his undergraduate degree
from Harris Stowe State College and a masters and doctorate degree
from Washington University. He began his career with the College
in 1983 as dean of student services at the Forest Park campus and
was named campus president in 1992.
Dr.
Shannon was a teacher and counselor in the St. Louis Public School
System and worked as a counselor and administrator at Harris Stowe
State College. After leaving Harris Stowe State College, Dr. Shannon
was the administrator at St. Louis University directing the Upward
Bound Program.
Dr.
Shannon continues to be an advocate for students and student success,
and his dissertation focused on strategies to enhance the achievement
of African-American high school students. Currently he is active
in many community organizations that support the success of students
in the metropolitan area.
