What Is Twitter and What Does It Have To Do With the Innovations Conference?
Twitter (www.twitter.com) is a widely used online social networking service. It enables users to send and read other users' updates, called “tweets.” Tweets are short, limited to 140 characters in length. Think of them as responses to a perpetual question: "What's going on”?
As a member of the Twitter community, you will be able to follow other account holders, such as the Innovations conference, and their tweets will show up on your screen when you log in to Twitter. For example, if you are following the @InnovationsConf and the League tweets, "Exhibitor ABC is giving away free t-shirts to the next 10 people to visit their booth," this would show up on your page when you sign in to www.twitter.com. It's that simple.
Hashtags (#): These are handy items to know about! Using a designated hashtag allows you to see all of the related posts from everyone talking about or having a conversation about the same thing. Just search on the hashtag (i.e., the Innovations conference hashtag is #INN12), and find all of the related tweets - kind of like a Google search, only it’s on Twitter, and it’s just for those hashtag posts. Use the search function on Twitter.com or go to http://search.twitter.com/ for the quickest results.
