    Default 2010 Opening Session

During the opening session of the 2010 Learning College Summit, Terry O'Banion and I posed the overarching question, "Does the Learning College align with the Student Success/Completion Agenda?" We then asked three questions to Summit participants: (1) In what substantive ways do these two movements -- the Learning College and the Student Success/Completion Agenda -- support each other? (2) In what substantive ways to these two movements differ? (3) How can any differences be reconciled in both theory and practice?

Small groups discussed each question and recorded responses on flip chart paper. After the responses are transferred to a Word document, they will be uploaded here for review and comment. The responses will be the basis of an article to be published in the September issue of Learning Abstracts.

    Default Opening Session Materials

The opening session PowerPoint presentation and discussion reference sheet are attached.

    Default Flip Chart Transcripts

The transcripts of participants' responses to the three questions are attached as Question 1.pdf, Question 2.pdf, and Question 3.pdf. For reference, here are the questions:
    1. In what substantive ways do these two movements -- the Learning College and the Student Success Agenda -- support each other?
    2. In what ways do these two movements -- the Learning College and the Student Success Agenda -- differ?
    3. How can any differences (between the Learning College and the Student Success Agenda) be reconciled in theory and practice?

Items were added to each file in no particular order; however, items are numbered to ease reference. In Question 1.pdf item 147 is blank.
